Deterioration of Michigan’s dam infrastructure has historically outpaced investment, leading to a lack of funding for addressing problem structures, the Michigan Dam Safety Task Force said in it its final report, which provides 86 recommendations for improving facility safety.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced the MI Clean Water Plan in October 2020. The investment focuses on rebuilding Michigan’s infrastructure and provides $500 million worth of funding to help local communities upgrade their drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

2021 Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant Funding Opportunity
Attached is an informational bulletin announcing fund availability for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). An estimated total of $6 million is available under this matching grant. Extensive program details can be found in FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance Unified Guidance document (although this document is labeled “Fiscal Year 2015” guidance, it is the current version of the program guidance).

PUBLIC COMMENT - Draft 2022 Assessment Methodology
The Water Resources Division (WRD) is accepting written comments between February 12 and March 15, 2021, on the draft 2022 Assessment Methodology (Chapter 3) of the Water Quality and Pollution Control in Michigan, 2022 Sections 303(d), 305(b), and 314 Integrated Report. Every two years the WRD prepares and submits an Integrated Report to the United States Environmental Protection Agency to satisfy the listing requirements of Section 303(d) and the reporting requirements of Sections 305(b) and 314 of the federal Clean Water Act. The Assessment Methodology describes the processes used to translate available surface water quality data into designated use support assessments in Michigan. MACDC Winter Conference Update
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors for the Michigan Association of County Drain Commissioners has chosen to cancel the 2021 MACDC Annual Winter Conference at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa originally scheduled for February 10th through 12th. It is our hope that the MACDC Summer Conference currently scheduled for July 14th through 16th at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island will take place. We will keep you posted as to the status of Summer Conference as more information becomes available.
Even though the 2021 MACDC Winter Conference is canceled, a number of meetings/presentations will take place via Zoom on Friday, February 12, 2021:
