Michigan’s Water Quality Standards Triennial Review

Public Comment Period and Public Hearing

Every three years states and tribes with delegated authority for their Clean Water Act, WQS Program, hold a formal open comment opportunity to gather comments and suggestions for potential modifications to those rules. This ‘triennial review’ for Michigan’s Part 4 Rules, WQS, and Part 8 Rules, Water Quality-Based Effluent Limit Development for Toxic Substances, promulgated pursuant to Part 31, Water Resources Protection, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended, is currently underway and public comments will be accepted between July 30 and September 21, 2021.

In addition to accepting written comments, the Water Resources Division will conduct an online public hearing September 16, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., as an additional way to accept suggested modifications to the Part 4 and Part 8 Rules. Oral comments will be taken during the public hearing.
